I will give you only around 25-30 minutes next class to finish creating these presentations. Lastly, please remember that your unit test will be on Wednesday, October 3. Periods 7-8 (A Day): Anabaptists

Hello everyone!  Today we presented our projects on various religions of the Reformation.  The last group presented their topic, Anabaptism, but did not get to finish the discussion.  Therefore, I have included some main points about the religion.

1.)  One of the main beliefs of the Anabaptists was that children should not be baptized.  Anabaptists believe that only adults should be baptized because they have the choice of joining the religion.
2.)  Anabaptists believe in a strict interpretation of the Bible and Martin Luther's teachings.  They also reject the authority of the Pope.
3.)  The Anabaptists are a peaceful religious and group and was one of the most persecuted of the time period.  They are considered pacifists (they refuse to fight) and refuse to hold political positions.
4.)  The Anabaptists reject religious authorities and act more like a community than anything else. They believe in the equality of those in their religion and they are very religiously tolerant.  Some religious groups that have been traced back to the Anabaptists are the Amish and the Mennonites.

Please remember that your test will be on Thursday, October 4.  Your study guide will be due on the same date.  Please email me with any questions.  Have a great day!

Hi everyone! Today we analyzed the various influences on Renaissance art. For homework, you are to take a step further and research an artist, writer, or architect from the Renaissance. Please research a specific person and then look up two works from that person. Please write about both pieces of art and the various influences on the two pieces.
For example, you could analyze two buildings by Brunelleschi (Renaissance architect) and describe within two paragraphs what influenced his designs. Such answers could be Greek and Roman architecture, science, humanism, religion, background of the architect, etc. The two works that you choose CAN NOT be ones that we have already looked at during class.
Lastly, you should write a couple of sentences on whether you believe religion and its officials lost power during the Renaissance or if you think that it retained it during the time period. Why do you believe so?

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Remember that your quiz will be on Tuesday. Have a great day!

Victorian Women

Hello everyone! Today we discussed the proper etiquette and behavior of women during the Victorian Age. We discussed various behaviors that would be unacceptable for women and men during the time period. We also discussed how women had little rights and opportunities; they were considered the husband's property once they married.

We then proceeded to discuss various reforms during the reign of Queen Victoria. Women began to achieve certain rights by the 20th century, but they still did not have equal opportunities or treatment within society. They also did not have the right to vote (suffrage), which many believed was important to achieving equal rights. Although many were opposed to women's suffrage (including women), the suffrage movement began to escalate by the 20th century within Great Britain.

Although the movement began peacefully, certain groups and individuals (such as Emmeline Pankhurst) began to use more militant means to achieve suffrage. These became the most well-known suffragettes throughout the world.

For homework, you are to make a pamphlet/brochure on the topics we discussed in class. It must be creative and appealing to the eye. Please spend time working on this and make it neat and creative. This will be worth 10 points. The first option is to make the brochure advocating the proper behavior and etiquette for women during the Victorian Age. Take the role of someone during the time period to preach how women should behave. Do not just transcribe your notes into the pamphlet; it must be in your own words and creative.

The second option is to take the role of a British suffragette at the beginning of the 20th century. You should be advocating why women should get the right to vote and preaching the methods of British suffragettes such as Pankhurst. Again, this must be in your own words and should be creative.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Have a great day and break a leg to all of the cast of "A Class Action."
