Periods 7-8 (A Day): Explorer Children's Book

Hello everyone! This is a reminder that your project will be due during next class. Remember that the children's book must be finished by our presentations on Tuesday. You will not have computer access during Tuesday's class, so please do not ask to print anything within the morning. You will have 10 minutes to finish any last minute preparations before we begin our presentations. Remember to look over the grading rubric to ensure that you know how I am grading each project.

You will need to work on this at home before next class. Remember to divide the tasks among those within your group. I will check to make sure that one person is not stuck with all of the work. Be respectful to those around you and help each other out!

Have a great weekend!

~Mr. Mazur   P.S.-  Your Age of Exploration test is going to be held during class on Tuesday, October 30.  Please begin to study and email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Periods 1-2 (B Day): Explorer Children's Story

Hello everyone!  Today we finished our information on the technology of Portuguese sailors and the conditions on the caravels.  We then wrote a journal entry based on the information that we learned within the past two classes.

At the end of class, we discussed the project that we will be working on during the next two class days.  Please start to research your specific explorer over the weekend.  REMEMBER:  As I stated in class, you will not have a lot of time to research during school.  Therefore, you need to do the research also while you are home.  Furthermore, do not procrastinate this research because we only have a small amount of time during school to work on this.  If you do not finish during class, you will need to do it on your own time.  In order to solve this problem, please work on research over the weekend and email me if you have any questions.  Have a great weekend!

Periods 3-4 (A Day): Current Events

Hello everyone!  As we discussed yesterday, you are to find a news article that somehow is similar to the events that we have learned throughout the year.  You need to print on the article (or cut it out of a newspaper) and staple it to the worksheet provided.  Please answer the questions on the worksheet relating to the article. Please email me if you have any questions.  Have a great weekend!

Period 7-8 (A Day): Zheng He

Hello everyone! As you know, Monday was Columbus Day. Therefore, our last lesson focused on whether Americans should celebrate this holiday. We discussed the possibility that the Chinese may have arrived in the Americas before Columbus. During Friday's class we discussed the Ming Dynasty and the voyages of Zheng He. For homework, you are to read the article about the exhibition on the voyages of Zheng He. Within the article, the author points out several pieces of evidence that Zheng He may have arrived in the Americas. Please read the article and write down the pieces of evidence that are provided. Furthermore, you must also write a paragraph on whether we should celebrate Columbus Day based on the evidence provided during class or during your homework. However, please remember that most historians refute the claims that Zheng He had arrived in the Americas. As you look at the evidence, please question whether this evidence is enough to assume that they had arrived during that time.

Have a great day!
