A Day: Columbian Exchange

Hello everyone!  This is a reminder that your homework is to read Chapter 20 Section 4 and to complete #1-8 at the end of the section.  Also, finish the questions relating to Roger Williams or Anne Hutchinson by next class.

Furthermore, I have given you an opportunity to gain some extra credit points.  If you would like to, please create a horror story that includes a topic that we discussed as an important part of the story.  The story should be at least 3 pages and must be creative.  This will be due by November 6.  Remember that this is optional and does not take precedence over other assignments such as homework, the project (November 11), or the test (November 5).

B Day: Fall of the Incan Empire

Hello everyone!  Today we learned about Hernan Cortes and his conquest of Mexico.  We also debated whether the fall of the Aztec Empire was a result of Cortes's leadership skills or if he was just lucky.  For homework, please read the article on the fall of the Incan Empire and complete the questions attached.

November 6-  Test
November 12-  Board Game Project Due
November 12-  Turn in notebook for check

Hello everyone.  Yesterday we assessed the motivations of explorers during the Age of Exploration.  We read primary sources and analyzed the technology and living conditions for the ships during this time period.  For homework, you are to create a journal entry (within your own journals) from the perspective of a Portuguese crew member during the Age of Exploration.  Please remember that you must be creative and it must not restate the facts learned in class.  You should give your entry personality.  Also, you should focus on your motivations for the voyage and what you encounter on board the caravel.  The entry should be at least 2 paragraphs long.

A Day: Mughal v. Ottoman Empires

Hello everyone!  Today we discussed the religious tolerance of the Muslim leaders of the Mughal Empire.  We also analyzed why the leaders began to dismantle these religious policies by Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb.  For homework, please create a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting the Mughal and the Ottoman Empires.  You should have about 3 similarities and 2 differences.

Furthermore, please remember that you will be having your quiz/test on Friday.  This assessment will include the lessons and readings that we had on the Aztec Empire, Ming Dynasty, Mughal Empire, and the Ottoman Empire.  Please study and email me if you have any questions.

An extra credit assignment was given out to two of my classes today.  If you choose to gain the extra credit, please research and complete the World Religions chart.  My Periods 7-8 class will receive the chart during Friday's class.

A Day: Mughal Empire

Hello everyone!  I hope everyone is having a great Columbus Day weekend!  During Friday's class we debated whether Columbus Day should be a national holiday.  We also presented evidence that an explorer (Zheng He) from the Ming Dynasty may have made it to the Americas before Christopher Columbus.  We analyzed information about the dynasty and the famous explorer from China.
